映画「コンタクト」を観て。。。

今日は敬老の日。年老いた親の様子が気になるけど、好きなDVDを観て過ごした。

何回見ても、いろんな発見があるが、今回は、このシーンでウルウルきてしまう。
搭乗者を25光年の彼方のベガまでの移動させると思われるマシンの搭乗者選考会メンバーの一人のP.ジョスが、ワシントンD.C.のリンカーン記念公園にエリーを呼びだし、二人で会話するシーン
P.ジョスは、エリーに、
「戻ってこれないかもしれない、命がけの旅なのに、なぜ、君は行きたがるの？」
と、質問したことに対し、エリーは、
「なぜ、我々がここにいるのか、我々がなにものなのか、その一部かもしれないけど、それがわかるチャンスなら、命をかける価値があるとおもう。」
と、答える。
「君は、ものすごく勇敢な女性だ。」
「ものすごい、ばか、かもしれないけどね。」
と、続くのだが。
ジョスは本当はエリーを失いたくない、彼女がそばにいてほしいためにこういう質問をしてしまう。エリーは戻ってこれない可能性があることが本当に怖いのだけど、誰かと親密な関係になることを恐れ、P.ジョスのそばにいたいのだけど、真実を追求する自分を演じてしまう。
真実を求める事と、人との温かみは、両立しないのだろうか？
せつない。
とか、観るたびに、自分の置かれている状況が違うためからかもしれないが、
毎回、違うシーンでいろいろ考えさせられる事の多い映画だ。

Concerning about my aging parents, I spent watching one of my favorite DVDs.

Everytime when I watch this, I discover something new.
I was particularly moved by one scene.
It’s the scene where **Palmer Joss**, one of the members selecting the passenger for a machine that is believed to transport a human 25 light years to Vega, calls **Ellie** to the **Lincoln Memorial Park in Washington D.C.**, and the two have a conversation.
Palmer Joss asks Ellie:
> *“This could be a one-way trip. You might never come back. Why are you so eager to go?”*
Ellie replies:
> *“If it’s a chance—even just a small chance—to understand why we’re here, who we are… then I think it’s worth the risk.”*
He responds:
> *“You’re an incredibly brave woman.”*
Ellie replies with a smile:
> *“Or an incredibly nuts.”*
Palmer doesn’t want to lose Ellie —he wants her to stay by his side, and that’s why he asks the question. Ellie, on the other hand, is truly afraid of the possibility that she might not return. But because she fears becoming too emotionally close to others, even though she wants to stay by Palmer’s side, she chooses to keep playing the role of someone devoted to the pursuit of truth.
It raises a bittersweet question:
**Must the pursuit of truth and human warmth always be in conflict?**
Depending on what’s going on in my life, different scenes strike me in different ways each time.
